AEON GREY Marionetteworkbench
Midwest born and grown creates a sense of urgency for a sense of identity and pride. With no real roots to grow from or veterans to learn from the base is set for originality, creativity, and a whole lot of self teaching. The boundaries of hip hop culture and the structure of the music that has become so redundant is lost, opening the way for new ideas and concepts. In an artform built on defining yourself and being as fresh as possible, a lot of doors are open for midwest music to break through and revitalize a scene built currently lingering in an era of ice and crunk juice.
A product of nuclear family fallout and the systematic daily grind of early adulthood, aeon grey is not adapting well. A cry to rally against the machine, MarionetteWorkBench is the search for identity amongst the dress codes and corporate codes of conduct. 11 tracks almost entirely lyrically composed from a cubicle under flourescent lights, it cries from the belly.
Aeon Grey has spent the last year doing a fairly consistent string of shows around the midwest. Most importantly trying to lay some bricks for a struggling Des Moines scene, most of the time is spent promoting shows, and creating a sort of blue collar propaganda machine to turn the tides against the massive media forces feeding the populous identity.
Just think of this as an artists search for identity and meaning in a city where everything you are is just what you are told...
